Gruesome Gal

I Am The Walrus

Just recovered fully from Friday night's indulgences. And what a night it was!
After the trauma of not being paid, I decided to skip the pink leopard print jeans and headed into Debenhams to grab some new lippy instead. Confusion ensued as they've completely reorganised the makeup department since the last time I was in. In a blind panic (I only had 90 minutes to make my purchase, get home, get ready and get back out again - eek!), I grabbed the security guard and demanded to know where they had relocated the Illamasqua counter. I was met with a blank look and carried on with my frenzied searching. Finally, I found the counter and was helped by a lovely girl with awesome hair! One tube of Underworld lipstick in the bag - result.

Straight home and threw on my new tshirt, fixed the slap, sprayed a can of hairspray on my mop and then began trying to decide what to wear on the bottom half. After emptying an entire drawer full of leggings in various shades of black, I found a welcome alternative to the pink leopard print jeans - silver spandex ones! They wrinkle around the ankles, so the white boots were out and replaced with a pair of black patent brothel creeper boots that I bought in Camden Market when I was 17!

On to the restaurant for the start of Spinal Lou's Hen Night.
Nanakusa is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant - lots of noodles and in a really lovely contemporary setting. I adore my Japanese food, so indulged in some Yasai Gyoza followed by the Yasai Noodle Soup. I may have had some cheeky Plum Wine to start as well. If you haven't tried it, then do so! It tastes a bit like Spanish Sangria - sweet and really potent!

Yasai Noodle Soup. Nom Nom Nom...

A few glasses of wine later...

Lou and I at the club, dancing the night away to indie choons from 'back in the day'! Note the shiny face and lack of any Underworld lippy by this point...

Stumbled across some rather quirky jewellery today from Marty Magic. Not sure what I make of that name... some stuff is totally desirable, the rest does verge on the 'hippy trippy fantasy' style that makes me cringe. Go have a wee look for yourselves, but here are a few of my faves.

Scissor Sister

I arrived at work today blissfully unaware all hell was about to break lose. It's payday and no one had received their wages. I work on a ship, so it's safe to say, there was a MUTINY! Some fuck-up at the bank supposedly - no one is prepared to take the blame as usual. But, it's Bank Holiday weekend and I've got a pair of pink leopard print jeans on hold for me (couldn't find lime green ones at such short notice)!
So, I decided not to do any work til somebody, anybody, came up with some cash so I can buy my jeans, noodles and loads of booze tonight.
Instead, I thought I'd occupy myself with customising my new tshirt. Bastardising more like! I haven't cut the collar off a tshirt for many a year, so the final result is a little dodgy.

Better Late Than Never

So, it's Spinal Lou's Hen Night on Friday. Tasty Japanese food followed by some silly dancing to some classic rock n roll. What's a girl to wear??
Bought myself this Cramps vest from Ebay. This morning - eek! Fingers crossed. I sent the seller a begging note for speedy delivery.

If it arrives, I've got about 20 minutes in town after work on Friday to find myself a pair of these babies. And yes, lime green would be the preferred choice.

These are my trusty wee Schuh winklepickers that will set the outfit off perfectly. I love a white shoe :)

You're So Vicious

You're So Vicious sunglasses from Spanish Moss

These babies will be the perfect accessory for my cousin's wedding June 5th. Added to basket. Just awaiting payday. Hope they arrive in time.
This is my French Connection dress in Pavlova which I hope to team with leopard print knee highs and sock garters (if they arrive too!)

Do you think I need a belt?? I've got a lovely black Betsey Johnson belt with a leather bow. It has leopard print on the reverse as well!
I think it's this one

Cheap, White and Tacky

I've been desperate for some good white nail polish. I haven't actually painted my nails white since using Tippex back in the early 90s, but as it's summer, I really fancied it. I picked up a bottle of really cheap (£2.99!) white from H&M on my way home from work last night. Here's the result:

New Topshop ring and strange blue hand

Out of 5, here are my scores:

Ease of application: 2/5 (really thick and tacky - like it's a good 6 months old)
Quick dry time: 3/5
Colour: 3/5 (needed two coats just to even it out. First coat was horrendous)
Value for money: 3/5 (worth paying a bit extra for something easier to apply)

Any recommendations for a quality white? Around the £6 mark preferably.

Freeing The Feet

This is the first day in about 9 months that I've dared bare my feet to the world. Snapped up these wee £6 sandals from Primark last week in anticipation of this day. Not worth spending any more as we rarely have more than 5 or 6 hot enough days each year. Toes are painted with my new Topshop varnish in 'Gone Fishing'.

Summer McLovin'

It's Scotland's official summer this weekend. Temperatures are set to soar to a balmy 24 degrees C.
Time for some loooove...

Fancy A Hand Job?

These fabulous coat hooks come in red, black, white, orange or pink. They remind me of the scene in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when the hand lifts Grandpa Joe's hat off his head. Obviously the Rock On one would be my first choice. Buy them here. Thanks to my pal Angela for finding them x

Skull Candy

Anyone that knows me or has been reading this here wee blog for a while, will be familiar with my contradictory bird phobia/bird obsession - you only need to take a look at my tattoos!
Whilst reading Honey Sweet Cheekz masterblog, Identi, I was reminded about this lettle gem I spied on Etsy months ago. He will be mine!

Now I'm Nailed To Your Bedroom Wall

I stumbled across the new Chris Habana FW 2010 preview and it's to die for. Literally. Full of false idols, bones and cages. Yes please!

Whisper Sweet Nothings

I can see my other half recoil in horror and embarrassment each time I pull my pink rubber encased Iphone from my bag. Its wee rubbery leotard protects it from any nasty bumps but it also attracts all manner of loose cat hairs and random biscuit crumbs. It also looks like a some form of child-proof safety gear.
Perhaps one of Plia Designs' new cake inspired delights would sweeten him up?

Mummy Monster

Images from Gaga Ooh La La

Loving Lady Gaga's 'all wrapped in white' outfit from the Almay Rainforest Benefit gig. I'm going to a cocktail party tomorrow night and if I can find a pair of white lace leggings, I might give this look a go. Then again, I might just look like the Michelin Man...

This would look delicious with all my pretty perfume bottles displayed on it.

On A Jolly

Part of my job requires that I visit as many Visitor Attractions as possible over the next few months. It's tough. Sometimes I have to get up half an hour later in the morning, eat lunch at the onsite cafes instead of my usual tin of Baxters Country Veg soup and 3 Ryvita, spend hours on public transport browsing the web on my iphone or painting my nails.
Yesterday was one of those days.I bundled myself up with my cosy scarf and cardigan and headed to Queen Street Station for the 9.30am off-peak train. The work budget can't stretch to the earlier prices - shame. Purchased a Grande Skinny Latte, popped the receipt into my 'expenses' envelope and hopped onto the train bound for Edinburgh Waverley. On the schedule for today was the Palace of Holyrood House, Our Dynamic Earth and the Royal Yacht Brittania.Enjoyed the first meeting of the day at 11am at the Palace over a pot of tea in the courtyard. The next hour was spent listening to the kids version of the audio tour (getting the work done). Just enough time for a spot of al fresco lunch in the glorious East Coast sunshine before a hop, skip and a jump over to Our Dynamic Earth.

Now this, I wasn't expecting. Our journey begins in a giant lift that descends through time, right back to the Big Bang. We exit into the Ice Age and then travel through all sorts of different climates on a simulated spacecraft. A giant 3D scorpian tries to sting me before a black rhino gives my big smiley face a good sniff. The journey ends in a planetarium gazing at the stars whilst listening to the dulcet tones of David Tennant's voice. Quick stop in the shop for some 'Space Ice Cream' before a taxi ride down to Leith to board Brittania.

The Royal Yacht was the least exciting of the three, but the triple decker fudge made onboard made up for it.
Right. Where's next? Liverpool next Friday methinks.

In Love With Lament

A short interview with one of my favourite contemporary artists, Glenn Arthur. His work inspired my new chest piece tattoo.

Frolicking in the Sunshine

The sun has been shining in Glasgow all weekend. So, on our way out to Spinal Lou's birthday bash on Friday evening I decided to take a few outdoor outfit photos. However, this was a good as I could get before getting all embarrassed an uncomfortable. The streets around here are always quiet and there's not usually anyone hanging about. But, just as I was trying out a few poses, a lady with a fist full of letters approached the post box I was standing next to. Instead of going about her business, she stopped, stared and waited for me to say 'go ahead - post your mail!' Now I just felt awkward and decided to head to the bus stop instead...

A Little Slice of Heaven

Just applied to take part in a guided tour of the Tunnock's Factory in Uddingston. This is as close to a 'Chocolate Factory' expereince that I'll ever get and even if I have to wait a year on the waiting list (which looks likely) it'll be worth it!
For those of you not familiar with the Tunnock's brand, they are a local Scottish company that have been producing some of my favourite mid-afternoon indulgences since 1890.
These a re their products, in order of my own personal preference.

The Daddy of the pack - The Caramel Log. Layers of soft chewy caramel and wafer coated in chocolate with a sprinkling of coconut. Mmmmm...

The Teacake. Not to be confused with those globular little pretenders known locally as 'marshmallows' which have a dod of worthless jam in the middle, the 'Teacake' oozes with mallow goodness.

The Snowball. Potentially the sweetest of the bunch. All the gooey yumminess of the Teacake with the added excitement of coconut, but without a biscuit base it's near-on impossible to eat without getting it all over you...

Finally, the Caramel Wafer. The most boring of the bunch. No gooey fun and no added extras.

What's your take on Tunnock's?

Gone Fishing

Topshop launched their new makeup line yesterday. Obviously I had to check it out. So, I droppped in after work today and had a wee gander at what was on offer.
Lovely polka dot packaging and some very pretty creme blush colours. Lots of different types of lip gunks to choose from - balm, polish, gloss, glaze or stick and everything was reasonably priced.
Decided to go for a nail varish. My trusty Collection 2000 'Button Moon' has all but turned to gloop, so I opted for the TS mint equivalent, 'Gone Fishing'.
Just trimmed my talons and applied a fresh coat. Well, two to be precise.

Out of 5, here are my scores:

Ease of application: 4/5
Quick dry time: 4/5
Colour: 3/5 (vibrant, but definitely required 2 coats - 3 would be even better if I could be arsed)
Value for money: 4/5 (if it lasts the weekend without chipping, then this will become a 5*)

For another TS makeup review, head over to Kingdom of Style for Queen Michelle's take on the lip polish.

Happy shopping!
